Music School Sunday’s:
Music School Sunday takes place once a month at Shiplake College, John Turner Building. The morning is run much like a school with children holding their own timetable of activities of specialist run lessons and ensembles.
Around 90 children aged 4 to 18 take part in a range of activities Starting at 9:00am for everyone. For the little children we have Choir, Kodaly, music time, recorders, mini drums, music tec, keyboards. For the older instrumentalists we have Jazz Band, Windies, violin group, cello club, music Theory, Music Tec, Drumming Club, Brass quartet, string group. Etc. The idea is that as soon as the children who are learning individually are ready, they move into specific ensembles. This ensures they have an excellent, all-round music education.
All these groups are tutored by highly qualified, professionals in their field. All tutors are insured, have full DBS checks, and most are first aid trained – most importantly they are all kind, fun and understanding.
We believe that happy children learn. Music should be fun, fulfilling and enrich lives – so this is what we aim for!
Starting at 9:00am we have two activities before tuck shop followed by two further lessons/ensembles. Ending in a showcase/concert at 12:00 where any child or group are welcome to play. All parents come along to watch.
We also have a great number of other performances throughout the year, from busking in Henley for Christmas Shopping day, Living Advent Calendar, Henley Youth Festival, Santa Fun Run, and our own Gala Concert.
The cost for Music School Sunday is just £150 (may rise slightly for September 2019) for the whole year, and we do have bursaries of up to 100% available.
